The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement occured in 2013 where three radical black organizers, Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi created a black-centered political movement based on the apparently, unprovoked murder of Trayvon Martin who were shot by the Neighborhood Watch George Zimmerman in February 2012. In my opinion BLM has a relevant and intentional good message to the world: No innocent black person (As well as any person) should be killed based on hatred and ignorance. Our civilization should raised above that but unfortunately some people and communities are still stuck in an environment where hatred, fear and isolation is a part of their survival code, the: “Changes are bad and will ripp your world apart” feeling is still stuck deep inside some American communities roots. But with that being said, there are some holes in the BLM organizational manifesto. For one: The BLM movement portraits the police reinforcements as white racist killers. I base my knowledge on the documentary Baltimore Rising where several members of the organization claimed that some officers of the Baltimore Police Department where ?racist?. I find this odd because George Zimmerman who shot and killed Trayvon Martin was not an police officer, he was a Neighborhood Watch in a community with large criminal activity, and he could be accused for reacting uncontrolled in a stressful situation. Furthermore George Zimmerman was half Peruvian and half American which means he wasn’t white. Lastly George Zimmerman did not have any connection to white supremacy or any other racist movement. That being said you don’t have to be white to be a racist. I think that the root to this problem is the 2’nd amendment, which gives any American citizen (also children over the age of nine) the right to bear and use firearms in self-defense. This creates a massive threat to the police officers and civilians, which can create an anxious and paranoid society as you don’t know who is bad and who is good when everyone can purchase a weapon in Walmart. And in a country as big as America with a big poverty problem the guns are always a safety insurance. The people in the street are on guard and then the tragedy hits, an innocent man or woman is accidentally shot and killed because they seemed to be in possession of a gun. We live in a modern age with a police force to take care of dangerous situations, we don’t need a Neighborhood Watch when the police will do the job. But I think that new winds are blowing, and the 2’nd amendment will either be restricted or banned. Due to the large amount of school shootings in the past few years can we see that students all around the country, are striking to see the gun violence to an end.
