Racism affects a lot of people and that’s why we think it’s important, that people learn about this. We think it’s very important that there is an organization like ‘Black lives matter’, that fights against racism via protests around the world. That’s why we are passionate about this topic.

The movement began in July 2013, with the use of the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on social media after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Afro-American teen Trayvon Martin 17 months earlier in February 2012. Later the organization has grown a lot, and in the summer of 2020, there was a very big focus on the ‘Black lives matter’ movement. It was due to that the 47-year-old Afro-American man, George Floyd, got strangled to death by a cop, while getting arrested. That made a lot of attention around the world. The social medias were booming and there were demonstrations all around the world.

Right now, the focus on BLM isn’t as big as it was in 2020 for example. For example, this is due to the war in Ukraine, that has most of the world’s attention right now. Of course, the war in Ukraine is a very important topic, but we still think it’s very important that people don’t forget about the BLM movement and what it stands for.
