Good afternoon everybody, my name is [NAVN A]. And I am a student here at the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. I have been asked to hold a speech for you today, so here I am. I want to talk about a topic that I believe that most of you have heard about. I want to talk about Black Lives Matter and explain some about police brutality. I hope that you will find this interesting and that I don’t bore you guys too much. We don’t have that much time so let’s get started.
First of all, I am going to tell you about police brutality in America. The American police look more and more like troops and soldiers. They don’t dress the way they used to. Now they wear big helmets, shields, rifles and tear gas And they use military weapons.
On June 1st a peaceful protest in front of the white house happened. The authorities that day were a mix of police and military: There was secret service, park police, the national guard, prison special operations and local police from a nearby county. But it is hard to see which one is the police and which one is the military. In a video clip we see people shouting “Why are you in riot gear” and “Don't shoot! This was a peaceful protest,” The police also lie and manipulate the truth, even though there are videos that record some of the things they do. They just lie and change the whole thing. A video of a 75-year-old white man has gone viral. In the video you can clearly see that three policemen pushed him. He landed on the ground, blood coming from his head and they did nothing. They changed the story and said that he fell. Even though all it takes to know what really happened is to watch the video. This clearly shows us that something is off, and people are scared. The police are not what they used to be, and it scares people.
