Filmanalyse af 'I, Robot'

The technology has evolved a lot over the past years and has become increasingly integrated in our society, and it keeps getting more and more involved, but how would our future look if the technology continues to grow and become more integrated. That is exactly what Alex Proyas fabricates in the movie "I, Robot", from 2004. “I, Robot” is a science fiction movie based on a fictional future that deals with the challenge of the technology and artificial intelligence.

The movie takes place in Chicago in the year of 2035, where the technology has developed and generated robots that serve the human beings. In this future world almost, every resident in the society has and enjoys these robots, and they use these robots for everything from security to help around the home with cooking. However, these robots are not the only developed technology in the movie. We shortly notice more and more new high technology throughout the story e.g. the self-propelled cars, parking lots and even the roads and tunnels has developed (9:40 to 10:25). These are all elements that represent and identify the future and high technological setting in the movie, but they do not have such a big impact on the story as the robots have. The robots are the essential element, as they are the reason for the external conflict, viz. the robots take over and bend the three rules for robots namely: A robot must not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm; a robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first rule; a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second rules.
