Was the coronavirus epidemic a coincidence with Bob Iger’s retirement?
When Bob Iger, The Walt Disney’s CEO, announced that he had plans to retire in 2021, the whole world was choked, and questioning, why Iger quits so early. Disney has been a worldwide attraction in many years and when a company manages to get this international, they end up in some kind of shitstorm or rumors. Iger’s last day as CEO of The Walt Disney Company was slated for December, 2021. He has previously extended his contract twice before, however, Iger assured Disney's board that he would undoubtedly be turning over the reins this last time when his tenure expired.
Why after not being able to step away from Disney, suddenly leave his post almost two years prematurely?
In my opinion I think he felt that it was his time to leave the CEO spot to another coworker, and it was about time to turning over the reins for the last time. It is a time consuming job, and a job you need to prioritize from. The family might not get in the first row. And by that he might want to spend some time free, without the company in mind or anything like that. Bob Iger knows that he has achieved a lot since he came to The Walt Disney and may think that it was about time for his retirement, and that is why he choose to leave the CEO spot this early.
