Protest against Euro Disney in 1989! Frenchmen did not like Disney, they did not like the American culture, they thought that it did not fit in with the French style.

France and the USA relationship has never been that good, the French movie director Ariane Mnouchkine even said that the American culture has like a cultural Chernobyl. Chernobyl was a Russian nuclear power station, which blow up and killed 2 people and evacuated many. It was the worst nuclear power plant accident in history. That is a very serious comparing to make. The two cultures does not fit together, they do not marketing the same way. Both cultures are very proud of their country and their history. Disney’s values are the same as American values, that could be a good reason too why the Frenchmen did not want Euro Disney in Paris.

Ariane Mnouchkine is not the only one who does not like Disney, also another Frenchmen said “Mickey transforms children into consumer’s symbolism” by that he means with all Disney´s merchandizing and Mickey Mouse everywhere, and then Mickey becomes an ideal for the children. He does not like Mickey because he is a true simple of the American society, some people think that he is to perfect and nobody can be that perfect, and that makes him a bad example for children because they cannot live up to it.
