The film begins with a man named Forrest Gump who is sitting at a bus stop in Savannah, Georgia. Forrest picks up a feather and puts it in his book, then tells the story of his life to a woman seated next to him. She listens to him. The listeners at the bus stop change regularly throughout the movie, each showing a different attitude ranging from disbelief to supportive.On his first day of school, he got on the school bus. Forrest had leg braces. Therefore, nobody wanted to sit with him on the bus. Besides the girl, Jenny.

They became closer and closer each day.

One day, there came some bullies, while Forrest and Jenny went on a walk. She told him to “run Forrest, run”. So, he did. He ran so fast, that his braces snapped. Even though they snapped, it didn’t stop him. He ran, and ran, and ran. He ran as fast as lighting.

His ability to run at lightning speed gets him into college on a football scholarship. After his college graduation, he enlists in the army and is sent to Vietnam, where he makes fast friends with a black man named Bubba, who convinces Forrest to go into the shrimping business with him when the war is over. Later they get attacked. Forrest rescues many of the men, but Bubba is killed in action.
