Martin Luther was born in 1483, November 10th in Eisbelen. His father Hans Luther, worked in the copper mines and smelters and later he owned a few himself. Martins mother, Mageret Luther was a hard-working woman. Both of Luther’s parents worked hard to support the family and they got a higher social rank. In 1490 Martin was sent to the Latin school at Mansfeld. Luther chose to become a lawyer to increase the success that his father Hans had begun. Martin started at the University of Erfurt in 1501. He also enrolled in the instructors of law.
But then something happened. One day when he was traveling back to the University in Erfurt after visiting his parents at home. He got stuck in a thunderstorm, at that moment he swore to become a monk if he survived. Two weeks later Martin joined a group of monks called Reformed Congregation of the Eremetical Order of St. Augustine at Erfurt. At this point everybody was Catholics in Europe. Later Luther stared teaching at the University of Wittenberg. He started spreading the word about his new idea about the relation between God and man. Luther was convinced that man could speak directly to god and that you don’t have to pay money to be forgiven.
