Rolihlahla Mandela was a very important man in South Africa at the end of the 19th century. Mandela was born into the Madiba clan in South Africa in 1918. He went to a school in a small village called Qunu, where his teacher gave him his Christian name "Nelson". Mandela continued his education and chose to study art and law at university. He died on December 5, 2013.

His mother was Nonquaphi Nosekeni and his father was Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela. In 1930, when Mandela was 12,
his father died, so Nelson joined Jongintaba at The Great Place in Mqhekezweni.
When he heard the stories of the elders about the bravery of his ancestors during the Resistance wars, he also dreamed of contributing to the struggles of his people's freedom.
Mandela fought for equality, anti-colonialism and peace. Mandela is often named the father of the South African nation and has received numerous honours for his work, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
Nelson Mandela left South Africa to seek support for an armed struggle against the government and received military training himself in Morocco and Ethiopia. When he returned, he was charged with leaving the country illegally and of inciting strikes. Mandela was sentenced to five years in prison.
