Couchsurfing is a great opportunity to experience countries from a different angle, get a look behind the tourist environment, and a good host will provide a better understanding of the place you are visiting. Unlike Airbnb, you do not pay to stay in someone's home. Most couchsurfers "repay" their hosts with fun experiences and new friendships. Your host often knows the hidden hotspots and can offer money-saving advice for sights and activities. You will learn about where to find the best food in town away from tourist attractions. As a student, I do not have that much money, which means I do not have many options. I have always dreamed of coming to Oceania, but that dream has always been impossible until I was introduced to couchsurfing. I am glad that I have the opportunity to explore the world and new cultures while spending little money. My couchsurfing experience was a week in New Zealand. My hosts were in their late 20s and early 30s. A guy born and raised in New Zealand and Japanese woman. I had a few days with them and I enjoyed experiencing their lifestyle which was really healthy. They both ate mostly vegetarian but not quite vegan, and the male host, was the chef, he made an amazing vegetarian curry my first night in their home. I slept in their cozy guest room where I had my own closet and bed. In addition to their healthy diet, they were really active. The guy enjoyed playing football, long runs, and then he loved surfing. The woman instructed in yoga classes and ran daily runs in the morning or else goes to the fitness center. The next day I went to a yoga class with the woman after a morning jog and in the evening the guy and I drank some beers. We ended up watching need for speed because it was the hosts favorite movie and because the guy said I reminded him of the main character. The next day we went for a long walk on the beach and I tried surfing for the first time. I even had to watch the sunrise with him on the last day, but unfortunately it started to rain a lot when we drove out to sea. In any case, it was a positive experience, which is very cozy and more unique than a hotel stay, it has given me some memories that have so far been the highlight of my travels. I learned a lot about the way my host's culture and lifestyle was, and I got a more genuine view of the local culture, I can highly recommend couchsurfing. Even if you can afford an expensive and luxurious hotel, you should definitely give it a try. The experience is so unique and bold. You meet locals in the places you travel to, and you make friends and connect all over the world. Even if you do not want to live with a stranger and are it is an easy and quick way to meet new people and get ideas for what to do in the city you choose.
