‘Billy Elliot’ is a movie about an eleven year old boy, named Billy. The film takes place in 1984, in Northeast England. Billy lives with his father, big brother and grandmother in a small mining town. There’s a strike in their town, so they’re very poor, because the father is without money and work. Billy’s father really wants him to go boxing like the other boys, but Billy would rather dance ballet. We follow Billy and his family’s journey, which includes problems and happiness.
Teaser: We’re being initiated to Billy’s everyday life. How he’s going to school, boxing and how he’s taking care of his grandmother.
Presentation: Here we’re becoming wiser about Billy, and we see him showing interest in ballet. We also identify ourselves with minor characters.
Elaboration: We see how addicted and attracted Billy gets to ballet, but also how his family is doing. They’re not doing great.
Point of no return: When Billy’s father is walking into the hall, and he sees his son dancing ballet. Billy has been busted and his father is very upset and is taking Billy right out. There’s nothing else he can do, than quit his new interest.
Conflict/escalation: When Billy’s ballet coach, Mrs. Wilkinson, is getting into an argument with Billy’s father. Billy missed a huge opportunity and try out for ‘The Royal Ballet School’ in London. But his father and brother don’t seem to care. They think ballet is a sport for gays.
