1)The movie is about a little boy called Billy Elliot, who dreams of being a professional ballet dancer, but his father, Jackie, and older brother, Tony, do not want him to dance, because they think, that he will turn into a faggot, if he starts dancing. Billy’s mom died some years earlier, and he now lives with his dad, brother and Nan. Billy’s Nan is invalid, and she supports Billy and his ballet, because she once as-pired to be a professional ballet dancer as well. The film is set during the UK miners’ strike 1984-1985, and Billy’s father and brother are both coal miners out on the strike. Jackie takes Billy to the Sports Centre to learn boxing, but Billy does not like the sport. The boxing gym is also being used by a ballet class after their usual basement studio in the Sports Centre has been turned into a soup kitchen for the striking miners. While Billy is in the boxing ring, he cannot help but admire the elegant moves of the dancing girls in the other end of the gym. Billy is dancing around in the ring and turning his back to the opponent. The trainer calls Billy a disgrace to the gloves, and a few seconds later, Billy gets knocked out. The coach hands Billy the keys to the centre and tells him to punch the bag, until he gets it right. He just had to give the keys to Georgia, the ballet teacher, when he was done. Billy only lasted a few seconds at the punching bag, until he slowly walks towards the ballet class with nervous steps. The teacher let him dance with them, and Billy loved it. He loved it so much, that he decided to go the ballet classes instead of boxing. He told his father, that he was going to boxing class though. Jackie discovers this, after the boxing teacher mentions Billy’s absence, and Jackie forbids Billy to take any more lessons. Passionate about dancing, Billy secretly continues taking lessons with help from Georgia. Georgia believes, that Billy is talented enough to study at the Royal Ballet school, but Billy misses the first audition because his older brother got arrested due a skirmish between the miners and the police. At New Years Eve, Jackie is out celebrating with some friends, and he hears, that Billy is dancing a-round in the gym with his best friend, Michael. He rushes to the gym and immediately starts yelling at Billy, telling him to go home. Billy has had enough, and he starts dancing around the gym, showing his father his talent. Unintentionally seeing Billy dance, Jackie realizes, that his son really is incredibly tal-ented, and he will do whatever it takes to help him achieve his goal of becoming a professional dancer. Jackie attempts to cross the picket line to pay for Billy’s lessons, but he is being stopped by the older brother. Instead, their fellow miners and the neighborhood raise money for Billy. Jackie takes Billy to London to audition for the Royal Ballet School. Billy is very nervous, but he per-forms well. His chances at getting into the school are being worse, when he un-provoked punches a boy in the locker room. After the little accident, Billy is being sternly reminded of the rules at the school, by the review board. It seems, that Billy has lost his chance, and he goes home to Everington feeling bro-ken and lost. About a week later, Billy receives a letter from the school accepting him to the Royal Bal-let School, and he then leaves his family to go there. The final scene in the movie takes place about fourteen years later, when Billy attained his goal. He takes the stage to perform Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, as his family and friends watch in the au-dience.
