1) Who is speaking here and how does he introduce himself?
I think that it is Joe that is speaking, and he introduces himself as this robot who is becoming more and more intelligent, and the “maker” of Joe is teaching him to become more and more human and act a sudden way and evolve his vocabulary.
2) What is meant by Love as a two-way street?
I believe that the author means that; you can't just expect your dream partner to have you as their dream partner. Even if you love them, they need to love you too before the start of the relationship. If not, then it's becoming a one-sided relationship and they are not healthy.
Milton here is searching for his ideal partner, so he processes to teach his computer Joe what to look for. But Milton only searches for the outside traits and beauty standards and not the personality.
3) What do you think the author is trying to say (this story was published in 1977)?
I think even if Milton never looked for a partner Joe would still go crazy at some point because he can question.
Asimov always afraid of the capacity of AI so he wrote this and I ROBOT and many more. He even said ‘’Mankind will eventually suffer from the disease of boredom.’’
