The hate u give is a movie from 2018. The main character is called Starr, she lives with her mother, father and two brothers, in king’s height, which is the bad hood. Starr goes to a private school where mostly white children go. In king’s height a lot of things happen but mostly bad. No one can throw a party without someone arguing or getting shot at. The movie is about racism and how no one takes it seriously or listens if it is a black person being shot or mistreated. It happens to Starr, her best friend is shot right in front of her, and the only thing the police ask is if he took drugs, if he sold them, or whether it was his own fault that he was shot. Starr goes on live TV and tells her friend's story of who shot him and why he was shot, but the only thing she gets out of it are life threats from the biggest dealer in her hood, and people's pity. After friend Kahlil was shot people started protesting, but the students at Starr's school use it as an excuse to skip classes, which makes Starr very sad as they don´t do it because they think it is wrong what happened but just use it as an excuse. Starr experiences to a great extent what the word injustice means. No one who can do anything about the case and bring justly about Kahlil will hear or understand, it does not matter what the protesters say or how loud they shout it, no one will listen or do anything about the injustice they experience.
