I always wanted to travel the world, learn new languages and understand different cultures, it has always been a passion of mine. I had a plan with my friends, we would travel as a group doing the summer break. Phoebe, Elsie, Harry, Leo and me. After a lot of consideration and arguments, we decided to go to the Bahamas. We wanted to get to know the "real" Bahamas, we wanted to see the beauty and the community through the local's eyes. We researched a lot and then we stumbled over Teen-Tourists website. We applied and said we wanted to travel to the capital Nassau. We then got matched with a boy named Jalen, Jalen was about the same age as we were. We booked a hotel and plane tickets. We arrived late, so we just went straight to the hotel and slept.
We met Jalen the next day and he gave us a quick tour around town, after the tour, we went to a market called "Straw market." It was amazing, they sell handmade Bahamian crafts, souvenirs and much more. In the evening Jalen took us to the teens "hiding" place. We met many of the local teens and then more came and out of nowhere a party had begun. It was so fun and interesting, but I was very surprised when I found out, that the legal drinking age was 16! My friends and I couldn’t believe it, our drinking age back at the states are 21. It was a fun night and a good experience, we talked to a lot of different people it was so fun to compare our lives because it’s so different. After the party, we started to hang out with Jalen and his friends, we sort of blended in. We went to some of the most beautiful beached I’ve ever seen. They told us about all their traditions, history and how it is living there we learned a lot about their culture. Many off their families made money from tourist and was depending on people like us. ¨
