Bruno’s life in Berlin is very normal, he runs around the streets with his three (Martin, Daniel, and Karl) best friends, and goes to school. Bruno lives in a ‘'enormous'’ house with his parents and sister and the service people. Bruno is also very happy for his neighbors, because he is friends with a lot of them. Bruno also notices a lot of happy people sitting and drinking frothy drinks and laughing very much when he is going home from school!
What can you infer about Bruno's father from information in Ch 1?
We can already see in the first chapter what kind of father he is! He is a very serious man, and that his job is a big part of his every day, and he works a lot. We can also see that he gets a good salary because he lives in a very big house. Although he is very serious about his job, we can also see that he loves his family. We know that when the mother for example says that the father would miss them if he moved out alone, or when the mother said; that the father loves Bruno and Gretel equally.
Why do you think Bruno has difficulties understanding what his father does at work?
