The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ written on Striped Lines.

Introduction

The following you’re going to read is my book review of a great book called ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. The book is written by the great Irish author John Boyne.

Book summary

Berlin 1942

Young Bruno lives a wealthy lifestyle in prewar Germany along with his mother, elder sister, and SS Commandant father. The family relocates to the countryside where his father is assigned to take command a prison camp. A few days later, Bruno befriends another youth, weirdly dressed in striped pajamas, named Shmuel who lives behind an electrified fence. Bruno will soon find out that he is not permitted to befriend his new friend because he is a Jew, and that the neighboring yard is actually a prison camp for Jews awaiting extermination.

Theme

In this novel there are many different themes going on. Such as friendship, innocence, ignorance, fear and war.

Receiver

The Receiver should be at least 12 years old to read it, because it still isn’t the easiest book to read and it’s a little harsh to read about how the Jews were treated. But that’s just what I would recommend.
