Racism and equality has always been discussed. It has always been a topic with a lot of disagreement. And throughout the years there has been a lot of protests, the so-called “Black Lives Matter” protest. The recent BLM protest started after the killing of the 46-year-old George Floyd. He died after the 45-year-old coop Derek Chauvin, knelt on Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes, while Floyd was handcuffed, screaming “I can’t breathe”. This started waves of protest all over the USA.

“NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE”

People, most black but also white, went on the streets to demonstrate, to indicate that this is not okay and that, the African American people, want justice. The demonstration started to get more intense, people started to destroy and rob shops. I think they did this to get attention, and as one of their mottos are “No justice, no peace”. Buildings and cars got sat on fire, and the demonstration did not stop, before somewhere early in the morning.

Curfew for protest

So, the police saw no other solution than to make curfew for protesters. The curfew was at 11 pm, but the next day, the police made the curfew at 8 pm. That meant the protests had to stop at 8 pm. But the demonstrators did not care, they would not stop, they wanted people to know that this movement is much more than a curfew. So, they kept on demonstrating. Some people more violent than others. I personally did not and do not support the violence demonstration, while violence is no answer to anything, it only makes everything even worse. But there also was a more “Peaceful protest” as they kept screaming, in the last part of the video. I think that these demonstrations where more meaningful, while they had something they wanted to say, something they wanted to change, they wanted and still want equality and peace, they do not just want to fight back, but they wanted to go on the street and show that this is not okay, and that change is necessary.
