Dear diary,I’m the one and only Sofia. I’m from Russia and I live with my dad. My mom left a few years ago and went to America to get a head start on a better life. She works as a house cleaner for rich people. She only gets paid a little. Now we are going to live with her in America. However, the actual reason why we are going to America is because I think a week ago I was getting some fresh air while my dad was at work and I saw a cop with a gun in his hand. He was trying to shoot another Jew but the Jew running. He shot the gun twice. One of the bullets almost hit me. I told my dad and he said were going to get out of Russia soon. He also said it’s too dangerous out here so that will be our little secret though. My friend s sometimes ask me if I go to school but i say no because i work there to get money to visit my mom. What I do at work is clean the whole entire school and I get paid a lot.April, 21,1820Today’s the day, we finally meet our mom. My dad and I had to walk 2,600 miles to go on the ship. I was crying because my feet were hurting and my feet are cramped. I was very shocked when my dad told me I had to leave some of my stuff behind like my rabbit Wholly and my toys and most of my favorite clothes. I did not want to throw the toys and clothes away, so I gave it my aunt to take care of. When we finally made it to America the people had to check us to see if we had any diseases or else we will be send back to our country. We got through and we saw mom waiting for us. She showed us our new house and it was much bigger then the house we had in Russia. Also my mom heard I had to leave my rabbit behind so she brought me a new one and I named it Oreo. Lucky thing I came to live in America or who knows what would have happened if I stayed back in Russia, but I know it isn’t anything good.
