It’s very hard to see people who are in opioid abuse, and especially when you cannot help them. But should the American health care system be able to help the opioid abusers or is it up to themselfthemselves? We would in thisIn the article by Beth Macy “I am going to die if I keep living the way I am” by Beth Macy from 2018, we find out how the abusers will/can get help for their addiction. Where Macy talks aboutthrough the story of a young heroin-addicted mother, who was betrayed by the system and then died.

In the article “I am going to die if I keep living the way I am”, Macy tells a the personal story of Tess, the drug addict, and the way society failed to help her. Macy also talks about some general arguments about solutions to the opioid problem. We know that Macy tried to help Tess because she stepped in to help Tess in various situations. “I kept in touch as she lost custody of her son and couch-surfed through slumlord apartments, then as she toggled between psychiatric hospitals, jail cells, shelters, emergency rooms, and the streets” (ll. 12-13). In those two lines, Macy’s help and mercy were expressed. Macy followed Tess and was involved in the case from the beginning to the end until her death.
