The mom (Beth) and dad (Jakey) handle their Maori background very differently, Beth is kind of into it since she wants the whole family to be buried at one location with their ancestors, Jakey on the other hand doesn't really care, all he thinks about is that he was a “slave” back in the time, and now he's free to do absolutely anything he wants to – in his eyes at least the Maori culture went down to be less important for Jakey 1. In what way are they not responsible parents? Describe the parties they have -Well first of all the dad always were out at night, at the pub drinking with his friends these parties normally ended up with the dad telling everyone to come home to his house, and continue the party there instead of them “just” drinking. At these parties they ate food together and drank lots of alcohol, and they sung and screamed with the children trying to sleep upstairs, they fought and smashed bottles, they also had loads of sex at these parties, sometimes in the middle of it.

1. In what way are they not responsible parents? 2. What does Nig (the oldest son) think of his father? -I think that by a first hand impression, Nig doesn't like him, thats probably why he chooses to part up with that gang, but on the other hand, deep inside I think Nig feels sad because he loves his dad but he doesn't get the love back from him. He thinks his dad doesn't care about him, while I do partly agree with that from what I saw in the film I think Nig just wants more attention from his Dad. 3. Why does he tattoo only half of his face? -To take part of the gang halfway so to say, he wants to be in the gang since he doesn't get the attention he needed at home BUT he wants to stay recognizable for his Family, if they suddenly do decide to take care of him, as they do in the end of the movie. I think that was a smart choice of him to make, I don't think he told the gang why though, they probably wouldn't have liked his way of thinking.
