The Ku Klux Klan or the invisible Empire of the South, was established in 1868, and consisted of a white majority from every profession and class.
“Ku Klux” comes from the Greek word Kyklos.
The Ku Klux Klan wanted white power, and thrived to suppress the blacks, and their enjoyment of their free civil rights, and white radical republicans, that helped the blacks, with violence, threatenings and even murder.
The members of the KKK wore white capes and hoodies.
The first klan was founded in Tennessee back in 1865 by veterans from the Confederate States Army.
When the organisation was split, because of the new Jim Crow laws, that secured white ruling, former members created other similar groups such as: The Red Shirts and The White League.
The organisation reawoke in 1915 in Georgia, where William J. Simmons started it. The number of members hit the highest point in the 1920’s, where it reached a staggering 4 million members. Most members were situated in the old southern states in America.
The Interest and the number of members in the KKK decreased during before the crack of wall street and during the great depression.
An example of the violence and terror the KKK brought, was the story of James Cameron who’s friends were beaten up and killed. This happened because Cameron's friends told him to rob a white couple driving past them on their way home.
