For many years black and white people were segregated in the South. The black people were oppressed by the white people. The front seats in the busses were reserved for the white people. The best tables in the restaurants, and the good groceries in the stores were reserved for the white people. Most shops and restaurant did not even aloud black people to enter. There were special seats for the black people in the back of the busses. When they went to a grocery store, they had to stand for hours, waiting for the white people to finish their shopping. When a black man was finally next in line he did not even have the chance to say which groceries he wanted to buy; he just got what was left from the white people. Around the streets were drinking fountains; some for the black people and some for the white people. In school the black people learned from the history of the white people. The teachers were white and thus it was not aloud to talk about the history of the blacks. The toilets for white and black people were separated – their lives were separated.
Many black people have bravely fought a non violent fight to get the same human rights and privileges as the white people had. Many of them are known as heroes today.
