Racism and racial segregation are well-known themes all around the world, and especially the short story “One Friday Morning” written by Langston Hughes published in 1952, which take place in America, where racism is a major issue. The short story has the main theme racism, but it is also about believing in yourself and having a dream, and that is what I am going to talk about through my analysis, plus my own opinion.

Analysis

The short story “One Friday Morning” written by Langston Hughes, is a picture

of the American society, telling us about the Americans society situation around the 1940s-1950s. The short story is telling us about the racism in America, we are getting told about ‘the hidden truth’, that the system will not accept the same equal rights for both blacks and whites. Langston Hughes point of view is seen between the lines in his telling about Nancy Lee.

The short story has all in all two settings, it takes place at home, where we are getting introduced to the main character’s parents for first time and at school in North of America, where we are getting a better description of the coloured main character Nancy Lee, her art teacher Miss Dietrich and later Miss O’Shay the girl’s vice principal. The short story starts in medias res, it starts in the middle of the story, where we are getting introduced to the name Nancy Lee for the first time.
