The USA and racial segregation The Civil war in the US was a very horrifying war, because over 620.000 Americans died - necessary. The war started in 1861 and lasted for 4 years. The war was all about slavery. When the Constitution of the first democracy in the world was written, slavery was allready a normal thing. Several of the founding fathers, like Jefferson Davis, were slaveowners, even though the Constitution said, that all men are born to be free and equal - but it didn’t include slaves and women.
