A Day’s wait is a short story written by Ernest Hemingway. The story is about a small misunderstanding between a father, a son and a doctor. In this assignment I will be going over the plot of the story, the setting of which it is taking place, the point of view we hear about in the story and the different characters who appear in the story.
The plot of the short story is that a father has a son named Schatz who is visibly ill and says he just has a headache. When the father put his hand on the childs forehead he knew his son had a fever. The father has a doctor over three different medicines with three different color capsules to give to his son. The son starts acting a little weird. The father starts reading to help make his son feel better. After a while asks when he is going to die. The father was of course confused as to why the son thought he was going to die. The son says he overheard the father and the doctor talking and heard that he was 102 degrees. He had heard from his french friends that you can’t survive a temperature higher than 40 degrees. That is because they use celsius nad americans use fahrenheit. The had gotten that confused at was just waiting to die. The father then tells him about the misunderstanding and that he will be fine. After receiving the good news he was visibly starting to relax as he no longer feared the death he wasn’t even close to.
