Ernest Miller Hemingway was an American author. He was raised in Illinois. He was also in the the military, which was the foundation of his novel A Farewell to Arms, which he wrote in 1918. He is famous for his economical and understated style, which had a huge impact on the 20th-century fiction. He wrote most of his stories between mid-1920’s to the mid 1950’s. He won the Nobel prize in Literature in 1954. He published a lot of different literature throughout the years. He published seven novels, six short story collections, and two non-fiction stories. Many of his works is considered classic literature in America.
Ernest Hemingway has ben married four times. He also moved to Paris for some time. A Days wait, is based on a true story, from when Hemingway’s first child had a fever.
Setting-the physical / mental setting:
We are in a family home in the U.S around mid-1900. We hear about a boy that’s feeling a bit ill, and concerning father. We also hear about an intelligent doctor. Later in the short story we hear that the sick boy has a light epidemic of flu. But it’s not something that is dangerous. Even though the doctor explained to the father and son that the flu wasn’t dangerous, the boy is still afraid that he is going to die. In the story it appears that the son doesn’t want to be sick, but wants to go to school, he also doesn’t want to fall asleep. Maybe because he is afraid of dying. It also appears that the dad is afraid for his son’s life, and is very concerned, that’s why he called a doctor so quickly.
