In this analytical essay I will analyze a short story “Three Shots” by the writer, Ernest Hemingway. The short story “Three Shots” is followed by the story “Indian Camp”, and thus explains why Nick, his father, uncle George are in the woods when the story Indian Champs begins. The short story got published in the collection “The Nick, Adams Stories” The short story is about Nick, his father and his uncle. They were all on a trip, but one night Nick was left alone in the woods and then he began to think about the reality on this earth. The more he thought about the reality he began to get some flashbacks from his past where he was sitting in the hospital and in the church.
Being alone in the woods while his father and uncle are getting something to eat made him consider many things, but at the same time he was getting scared of his own toughs that one day he would die. “Nick lay still and tried to go to sleep. There was no noise anywhere. Nick felt if he could only hear a fox bark or an owl or anything he would be all right. He was not afraid of anything definite as yet. But he was getting very afraid. Then suddenly he was afraid of dying.” (Page 1, Line 15-17) The writer Ernest Hemingway describes the fear of being alone in this big and dark wood without being afraid of some noises coming from the corner, but instead you are getting fooled by your memories that makes you remember your past.
