“Mirror, mirror, on the wall who's the fairest of them all” Fairy tales are not true, nor is the image we see in the mirror every day. But what do we see when we look in the mirror? We see our physical appearance and the way other people may see us. But we do not see our mental state of mind or mental health. How we feel on the inside – which is more important than our appearance. Most people are afraid of speaking openly about mental health. It is taboo and people want to look happy on the outside. Furthermore, there is a stereotypical perception that men should have a strong mind which makes it difficult for them to seek help. This is exactly what this essay is about. The essay “Everyone Is Going Through Something” by Kevin Love was published on The Players´ Tribune on the 6th of March 2018. Love suffers from an anxiety disorder. In this text, Love claims that everybody can have mental health problems no matter what background they have. Above all, he emphasizes the fact that men can have mental health problems as well. He wants to break the taboo of not being free to speak about these issues.
