The short film “Prom” from 2016 by Imran J. Khan, begins with a cross-cultural impact displayed through Hasan, the main character. Hasan is an Indian American teenager, who is going to prom with a white girl called Bethany. Hasan is well-dressed and presentable, and according to tradition, he gets a corsage for Bethany. But when everything looks perfect, Hasan knocks on Bethany at her home, he meets her mother, Mrs. wheeler, who says that Bethany cannot go out with him as planned. Hasan gets told that the family appreciates him as a friend, but it would damage their reputation to let them go to prom together. As Mrs. Wheeler rejects Hassan, another white boy comes and has greeted her. A little later, Hasan meets Bethany, and he gives her the corsage while she is apologizing for the awkwardness and inconvenience. Hasan then left on his own again and return home to her father.

Cross-culture can be a struggle to juggle our different cultures and find a new balance in the new country. These struggles will result in conflict and challenges that are hard to get rid of, because of racism and prejudice. The short film “Prom” from 2016 by Imran J.
