Billy Elliot is a white English boy, who lives in north England in Durham. Billy lives in an underclass neighbourhood. Billy is 12 years old. Billy goes to boxing but he wants to go to ballet, but his father is against that. His father wants him to go to boxing, because that’s what the men in his family do. Billy lives with his father, brother, and nan. Billy takes care of his nan and made her breakfast. Billy’s nans have senile dementia, so Billy tries to help her as much as he can. Billy has a friend calls Michael. Billy’s family don’t have a lot of money. Billy’s father and brother works as a coal miner. Due to the strike they both have lost their jobs. All though Billy’s father went against his coworker, because his family don’t have money to live for. The family is falling apart due to poverty, and overall, they have a bad language and attitude towards each other. Billy’s misses his mother a lot. Billy is feeling a bit lost without her. We don’t get the story about how she died, but we get an expiration of how much she means to her family. Billy lives in an underclass neighbourhood. Due to the miner’s strike, we see a lot a police force. Very violent neighbourhood and their fight with the police every day. A neighbourhood with many terraced houses. Throughout the film we get an expiration of the community is a homophobic because of how they feel about Billy going to ballet. Back then it was hard to accept homophobia. it is kinder of a taboo back then, for boys to play women's sports. Billy's family are already looks down upon, therefore it wasn’t a good look for their reputation that Billy went to ballet. It is hard for Billy’s father to accept, that Billy is into ballet without being seen as a faggot. But at the end Billy’s father acknowledge that his son has some incredible talents, which his farther wanted the world to see.
