Protest poem
Ms. Elizabeth
English A
[NAVN A]
Who’s to blame?
I walk down the empty road
Its late, freezing cold
It’s as dark as his mindset
A shadow approaches, a clenched fist
Keys in between my fingers as I walk the mile
Expecting the worst as I was taught to
He grabbed me from the back
Pulled me in by the waist
Frozen
I couldn’t get myself to move,
Didn’t use the keys, I had prepared
Completely frozen
Waiting for him to get it over with
The blood running cold though my warm body
Freezing in the open forest we now were in
It all went black
Floating into space, trying to forget
Didn’t want to be here, didn’t want this to happen
I snap out of my story,
I’ve never heard the police station that quite
“What were you wearing?”
An officer asked lost for words
What was I expecting? Empathy?
Of course, they thought it was my fault
I guess I was “Asking for it”
Simile
Metaphor
Hyperbole
Juxtaposition
Imagery
Paradox
Apostrophe
Who is the speaker in the poem? Are you (as the poet) the speaker, or is the speaker someone else?
What is the speaker protesting (or frustrated about, unhappy with, etc.) and why?
