Artificial intelligence in education

We all know what school is, however, from now on, school as we know it will no longer be the same. Traditional classrooms are being reshaped as artificial intelligence, a new era of technology, is introduced to the school system. Since the release of GPT-3 in November of 2022, the AI has been used by millions of students across the globe. As AI becomes part of students’ daily lives, the school system will be improved, giving each student a personalized teacher ready to provide help at any given moment. This technological advancement not only makes school more efficient but also enhances the overall studying experience.

As the name suggests artificial intelligence, or AI for short, refers to non-alive intelligence programmed into a computer, enabling it to make independent decisions of its own without being pre-programmed for every situation. One of the most well-known AIs is Chat-GPT 3. It is an easily accessible AI, that has been trained on an enormous amount of data, about 500 billion words. It works by predicting the word that is most likely to come next in a sentence. It does not have a consciousness of its own, however it relies on patterns it has learned during its training. The Chat-bot works well, and can write human-like texts, that you can hardly tell was written by an AI. It can for instance write essays, computer code, scripts, poems, solve math problems, and almost anything you would like it to. Its top priority is to help the user. It is programmed to do what is asked, and it is lightning fast, and best of all, it’s free. The chatbots capabilities are demonstrated in the video “ChatGPT software highlights advances, limitations of modern artificial intelligence” as we see Osh Momoh use it. The video is mostly related to ChatGPT in businesses, but much of it can also be applied to schools. Osh Momoh, technical advisor says, “People whose job it is to create those kinds of short texts that are maybe fictional or entertaining, those jobs could be at least augmented by ChatGPT.”. And writing texts is something that students often do. And it will not only help with that, but as we are also told, it can also write computer code, which is useful for programming students. And it can answer almost any other question by pulling information across the internet. This is what makes AI a valuable tool for education.
