The school system in Croatia is in many ways different from ours. The system in Croatia consists of kindergartens and preschool. In Croatia elementary school is compulsory and free for all children between the age of 6-15 years. For children with disabilities, it can last longer than that, but not longer than until the age of 21.
In most of the schools or towns in Croatia they either go to school from 8am to 2pm, or 2pm to 8pm. So, they have around 6-8 hours in school, it depends on what the school’s rules and opinion. They also have theatre, chor or sports sometimes, but after school.
A way that it’s also different from ours in Denmark is that they do not have zero grade. They start in 1. grade.
The students are divided into three or more classes and these classes are referred to as the A class, the B class, and the C class and so on.
From 1st to 4th grade, you are thought by one teacher per class, that teaches every subject except for foregein languages and religion, subjects such as Croatian, math, art, nature and society, physical education/sports, music, and English.
Then 5th to 8th class the students are teached for each subject by different teachers.
