She was not special. She was not loved by anyone. She was not appreciated. She was not sought after. She was all alone and no one cared about her. – Until Mr. Harry.

I have read a story named “Me and Mr. Harry”. It is written by Batya Swift Yasgur who is the twelfth winner of MWA’s Robert L. Fish Award, presented annually for the most promising first story. Me and Mr. Harry was first published in 1995.

The story is about a little girl who has been “raped”. But the girl does not think that she has been raped, she thinks that it is love there is between Mr. Harry and her. You follow the girl and her parents through the story. The parents are trying to get some details from Mr. Harry and their child´s affair. But the girl will not say anything. She is heartbroken and Mr. Harry is in jail because of the affair. The girl is the main character in the story.

Naïve, gullible, credulous and reserved. – That could be the words to be scribe the girl from the text. But that would not be fair to stop here. So I will continue.

The girl from the story comes from a family with a mom and dad. The merciful mummy, who tries to keep this family together, and speaks nice to her daughter. And the father who is very straightforwardly and angry. The mom looks like a complete contrast to the dad. She cries all the time, she is very sentimental and the dad is just staying cool, he does not squeeze a single tear. It is certainly the father who has the last word in this relationship.
