Film analysis: 'Cry Freedom'

Cry FreedomCry Freedom is about a black South African man, Steve Biko and the relationship he gets with a white newspaper editor Donald Woods. When we meet him, in the biginning of the movie, Steve Biko has already been banned by the South African government. Banned mean he was not allowed to be in the same room with more than one other person, not allowed to write or allowed to talk with the South African nation. He was not allowed to leave his defined banning area. Steven Biko invites Woods to visit a black township to see the conditions. A township is what we today would call a ghetto, it´s a very poor place and nobody choose too life there, as Steven Biko says: “We are born into this and we going to die in it”. Woods begins to agree with Biko's desire for a South Africa where blacks have the same opportunities and rights as the white population. Donald Woods starts to right a book about the terrible conditions. But Donald Woods work get him banned, because the government don’t think that the black people shut have the same rights that the white Afrikaners have. He succeeds smuggling the book to another country, just across the South Africa line. So he can print it, and the rest of the world can hear about his experience.
