In this essay I want to describe what reality TV is, and try to discuss by giving an account to the three texts followed by my own opinion about reality TV.

1)

The English word reality-TV comes from US. Reality-TV is a show from the reality. Theres no lines planned, like in a manuscript. Themes, competitions and questions can for example be planned. In most reality shows theres a host and some participants/audience. Reality shows is not so expensive to produce, because theres no actors that have to get paid. It's like if you put people in jail and filming them 24/7. and so it don't get boring, you put a host in and get the people to do something for entertainment.

2) Text 1”Get real” is written by M.S Mason. The text says that actors aren’t important anymore because shows can intimate different dramas of real lives. The author talks about different kind of reality shows for example the show “Survivor” and “Big Brother”. In the text it says that “reality” shows have become very popular, and are very cheap to produce. The producer Bruce Nash says, that it is an easy way to produce these kinds of shows, because it is different according to films and other media. He says, it is an unscripted, uncontrived and spontaneous way to produce. “A woman was trapped on a Ferris wheel, hanging upside down, and somebody who was just there starts to climb up to help her… it is unscripted, uncontrived, and spontaneous” Reality TV can also have a positive effect to people. In the text a person named Dirk was a participant in the show “Survivor” he says that the show has changed his life. “It has changed my life in every respect – my relationship with god and everyone else, myself, the world” it made him realize the value things in life such as time, friendships, food etc.
