Sips of Jasmine tea are a story about Louise, who lives together with her husband Hal. It feels like her husband is very determined about want Louise is doing and how she shall behave. Louise has a secret life besides the life with the husband. Louise wants to have freedom and decide over her own life. But she wants to live on the country with her son Tim.
The main character and narrator is Louise. Louise is a Canadian housewife living with her husband Hal. Together they have a son Tim, Tim has left for Paris, where he intends to study French, and out of that we know that Louise is a middle-aged woman. From her comments, we can gather that Louise was brought up in the country. The happy memories from her childhood, reflects her longing for the same kind of experiences as an adult, bare feet in the dirt and her shower, “I stand up and the sprinkler brushes over me, showering me with water” this shows a childish side of Louise, which, I think have a lot to do with that situation she is in as a adult. Because she just says yes to everything her husband Hal tells her to. She reveals her pregnancy to Hal, without thinking of other options, and again she just does whatever he says, and she spent most of the time dreaming of the fantasy world where everything is different.
