Kasper Jakobsen See you in September Dear Amy First I’m pleased to hear that you have chosen our school, for the next term. Let me introduce myself, my name I Kasper and I’m almost 15 years old and I’m the class' computer freak. As you sure know, I go to a school called Haderslev Real Skole, were I am taking the 9th Grade, so we’re going to be classmates in the nearby future. The school is located in a town called Haderslev, situated in the western part of Denmark. The school has approximately 600 students, and the students range from minor classes to 10th grade. The timetable is very simple and easy to learn, I’m sure you’ll get a hang of it quick. I know that you got a very long school day back in England, but I can guarantee you that the days won’t be so long here in Denmark, so don’t be nervous about that. The lessons take 45 minutes and between each, we got a smaller brake of 5 minutes. Besides we got 3 brakes that last from 10 to 30 minutes. The subjects in school are probably the same as you have in England. There is Math, Danish, English, Biology, History, geography, Christianity, Physical Educations, Social Studies, German & physics and chemistry. Then you can choose some extra lessons called optional subjects, all according to what you have in mind to pick. It is practical subjects and other languages. The only problem I think you have on your mind is the language. But that’s no problem, because we’ve all got English since 3rd grade, and the most of our teachers speaks excellent English. So I do believe that we can explain everything to you, so don’t be afraid by asking if you are in doubt of something. The school has got a couple of traditions, which are taking place every year and as you sure wants to know more about. Each year we have got 3 weeks called “real week” which means a subject week, with an unique issue each time. In those weeks each student or groups of 2-3 students must make an exercise, make a “product” & present your job for the rest of the class. Then we got “realia” which is a kind of minor society were the whole school is working in different shops or factories, make money, buy food and so on. Another tradition is an yearly gala party, for all the 9th grades. It’s an evening were you dress up in nice cloth, make eat some good food, and dance with all the other students. The school has rules, we all have to follow. For instance, if you truant, you get a “petsen. A “petsen” is some kinds of punishment were you must stay behind and help the janitors for the number of lessons you have truanted. Another important rule is that you must keep your mobile phone in your pocket or in your bag through the lessons and only use it in the breaks. You may not take pictures or shoot, with your mobile phone on the schools site. I know that you wear school uniforms back there at your school, but that’s not have it is here. So remember buying some clothes, just before you come. There aren’t any restrictions of what type of clothes to wear, but the typical girl wear here is clothing like jeans and a shirt. Homework isn’t a big problem here, as long as you plan when to make it. It is different from time to time how much you get, but it’s usually something you can finish within a day. Well I hope that you’ve been informed about the school, and what is waiting you. Mostly I hope that you are excited to come. I haven’t anything else to say than, I hope you’ll have a good time here and get some new friends, so see you soon. Best regards Kasper 25-08-2009
