The September 11 attacks were a series of suicide attacks performed by the largest terrorist group in the world – The Al Qaeda. On this day almost 3.000 people died and a minimum of 6.000 people were seriously injured. Everything happened within two hours but even so the looses made a huge impression on all other people. New York was in chock for a long time after the attacks – as were the rest of the country. This was the day where the world and especially USA had to face a new threat, terrorism. And this was a revelation to the American government that terrorism now had to be taking more seriously than earlier assumed.
On Tuesday September 11hijackers from Al-Qaeda took over control of 4 airliners which earlier had taken off from Newark – Boston – and Washing ton DC airport. Planning the attacks were Osama Bin Laden in corporation with Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh. In an interview in 2002 Khalid admitted his involvement in the attacks. On March 2003 Khalid Sheik Mohammed was arrested in Pakistan and he’s currently at the Guantanamo base together with Ramzi Binalshibh. After violent hearings of Khalid he once again admitted his involvement, but this time he told the US military that he had the whole responsibility for the attacks and that it had nothing to do with Osama Bin Laden. On the interview with journalist Yosri Fouda in 2002, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed took the responsibility for the attacks and he claimed that the fourth airliner which crashed was meant to hit the capitol of USA (Washington D.C.) and not the White House, as former presumed by the FBI.
