It’s about a rebellious 17 year old called Sophie. She’s a mess. Her best friend is dead and her boyfriend has gone. She’s dropped out of school, sleeps through the day, eats all night long and refuse to see anyone. Her family have had enough. Her family sent her away to her 48 year old Aunt Fran. At her Aunt Fran she learnt about the past and what happened between her mother and her aunt so many years ago that made them hate each other so much...
The writer:
Maureen McCarthy is the ninth of ten children. She was born in country Victoria and she grew up on a farm near Yea. After working for a while as an art teacher Maureen became a full-time scriptwriter, writing for television and educational films. Her first novel was "Ganglands". She has also written: "In between", "Cross My Heart", "Queenkat, Carmel and St Jude get a life", and of course “Chain of hearts”.
My own opinion:
It was a difficult book to read. There were a lot of words that I didn’t always understand. I thought Chain of Hearts was in many ways, so very true and understandable. I'm sure many teenagers can relate to this book, though I can't. But it gave me a great way of looking at life. It was an okay book. But I had expected something more.
