War has consequences, especially for those involved. War Veteran is a short story which reveals some of these emotional scars in the consciousness of those who fought the war. While fighting the war, the soldiers have not got any time to think of what is really happening, and the thoughts come to haunt when the war has its end. Bryan, the main character, does not want to face the fact, but eventually he will. Some soldiers are longing to get back into war, after returning home. If they do not want to face it, they run away, and hide it deep into their minds, away from thoughts, and everything that has something to do with everyday-life.

Bryan is the returning soldier from the war in Vietnam. The Vietnam War had many losses, and USA was highly involved. Bryan is a typical returning soldier. He is determined not to talk about his experiences during the war, and would rather forget about it.”You don’t want to know… Take my word for it. Bud”. Bud, his younger brother keeps asking, because of his curiosity, but Bryan declines his wishes. Bryan has serious traumas from the war, and he feels it is better to leave it alone. Instead of talking about war, Bryan is much more interested in hearing about everyday-life events, such as Buds fight with Mike Kizinski, and not making the baseball-team. His mind needs to hear about silly unimportant things, that are easy to relate to and not having to dive deep into his thoughts, because of the mess the war has made in his mind.
