Here's Herbie: summary and analysis

The story is about the narrator that is a boy and he´s 15 years old. The boy lives with his mom that’s always sick and tired of life she keep complaining about her life, because she thinks she´s a failure. The boy is allergic to almost everything, so he goes to the allergist twice a week for a couple of years. The boy lives in New York, queens and his allergist is in Manhattan. The road to allergist is long and he takes a bus to the subway and then a train to Manhattan. So one day he takes the way to the allergist and when he´s at the subway he always gets scared because he suffer from psychosomatic, and thinks the train would crash and all would die. The boy always sits on the front car because he felt safe. Every time he sat in the train he always wanted to get out of the window, but he was afraid of people would think he would be childish. Then a man who always comes in the train yelling “here´s Herbie” the boy call him a retard and he always go to the front train and fantasizing himself driving the train while he takes his head out of the window. Then after he has gone to the allergist he took the same way home. In the train he thinks about how miserable his life is and always the same so he thought he wanted to change the way he lived. He went to the window and took his head out and he had the best felling ever, he also did as the retard and drove the train. After a while he says a train from the opposite track and sees its Herbie he smiles and they both waved to each other. When the boy went home we had the best day of his life.
