The conflicts started January 1972, there came parachute soldiers from the British army, because there was an illegal demonstration. It was catholic people who demonstrated for more rights for them. The soldiers should arrest the demonstrating people, but mostly the violent demonstrating people.

But when the army started to arrest people, they thought that someone shot at them, so the soldiers started to shoot some random demonstrators. Thirteen people were killed by the army, and many others were wounded. The civil people didn`t have weapons, according to the Catholics, and none of the soldiers had been shot.

The reason why it’s been called Bloody Sunday is because the day was very bloody and violent.

After Bloody Sunday

there was totally chaos between the English Government, and the Catholics in North Ireland, and the conflict has blown up many times after.

The band U2 has also made a song about the episode on “Bloody Sunday”, where they tell about their opinion of and their position to “Bloody Sunday”. The song is called “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, and in the song they sing, “That the battle just begun, and maybe it´s right”. Because the battle between Catholics and Protestants, may be there for a very long time.
