Bloody Sunday was a day full of troubles in Northern Ireland. Bloody Sunday happened on 30th of January 1972, in the Bogside area of Derry, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. British soldiers shot and killed 14 people. The 30th of January 15.000 protestants planned a protest for their citizen rights. The protestants people thought that the protest would be a day full of piece, but that was not the case. They protested because they wanted the same rights as the catholics. The British soldiers didn´t like the idea of a protest but the protestants still held it. The british soldiers were given a command to only shoot if some of the protesters had weapons, if not they couldn’t shoot. The british soldiers did not accept any kind of threats. When they saw a protestant grabbing a stone, they would shoot at him/she when they only were allowed to shoot if they had weapons. It all ended with 14 people getting killed, and over 14 injuries caused mainly by gunshots.

How is it now in Northern Ireland?

18 years ago, the good Friday peace agreement ended the violent conflict in Northern Ireland by creating a new government. The fact that political leaders in Northern Ireland are still struggling to bring protestant and catholic groups together might surprise a lot of people. Guns have remained largely silence since bloody sunday, but street violence continues. The summer months in Northern Ireland is called” marching season” by the street fighters. These marching events involves a lot of violence, and the political leaders are trying their best to stop these marching events, but without luck. The great thing about Northern Ireland today, is that the politicians has got the same goal, they want a so called “New Northern Ireland”. New Northern Ireland should be a country full of peace and love, but still some people don’t agree. The politician’s biggest problem is the street fighters who attracts some of their own to have a fight, to show that their religion is the one that is dominating Northern Ireland.
