As a human being we always have to take decisions either for ourselves or for other people. Our decisions always affect our lives and those we take the decisions for. We are always subjected to situations where we have to choose for others life. Sometime they have huge consequence, which affects us mentally the rest of our lives, and is deep down in our hearts.

The short story by Jo Cannon is about a doctor’s experiences in Africa. He is an expatriate doctor working for and aid agency. He meets a girl named Celia, who is servant at his house and works for him. He inspires her to draw. One night he is called at hospital, and when he arrives to the hospital, he recognizes Celia, lying there with eyes swollen shut, covered in bruises. Some nurses tells him the fact that she was beaten by her boyfriend when she that Friday night was on her way to her mother’s hut. Because of the lack of the skills to treat her brain injury at the hospital, he sends her to the capital city Hospital, hopping that they can save her. Some days after he gets an email which contents, that she is dead because of meningococcus. He comes home and retrains as a psychiatrist.
