I chose this topic, because I think that flora and fauna is one of the most important things in Australia. I think, if someone asked, for what they think, when they hear the word Australia, most people would answer the wildlife or just the kangaroo. I think it’s very exciting to see how the plants and animals live and to see how the whole continent has developed itself while it has been so isolated for the rest of the world in so long time. Australia is such a beautiful continent and I have also seen a lot of TV-programs and pictures of it.

How has the isolation of the continent affected the wildlife?

Australia is not just a big country, it is a continent in the world. It is indeed the smallest continent in the world, but it is then one of the most beautiful continents. The continent is rich of animals and plants, due to the continent´s isolation for the rest of the world, which was partly responsible for the late discovery of the continent. Australia has been very isolated in a so long time, that animals and plants have developed itself, example the marsupials. They have always had to cope with themselves. Australia is a very special continent, because of the flora and fauna. The fauna means the animal’s world, and you can say that the flora means the plants world. The animal’s world is very special in the continent. It consists of marsupial mammals; an animal with a pouch, where the baby can be. The marsupial includes, for example, the koala bear, the kangaroo and the wallaby, but there are of course also normally mammals, for example, the crocodile and the platypus.
