Today many people think that pollution is one of the biggest problems in our world. Pollution means that you make something dangerous or dirty for other humans or animals.
Waste – is the most important reason for pollution. Waste is stuff we no longer need; it could be things like yesterday’s newspapers, old cars, and smoke from factories’ chimneys. There are over 5 billion people in the world who all need food, clothes and transportation. Cars, ships, trains and airplanes produce waste too.
Waste can be very dangerous if it contains poison. Sometimes chemical factories leak the toxic waste into rivers and pollute the water and kill the fish.
Recycling is when you turn waste into something useful. For example, the old newspaper can be made into new paper. There are 3 main reasons why recycling is important. 1 it reduces pollution. 2 it conserves energy and materials. 3 it saves money, which can be spent on other things.
Recycling has existed for many years. If we look at the nature for example, the body of a dead animal can be used as food for other animals. In Cairo 25000 people live on collecting rubbish and selling it again in a market. They also collect metal, glass and paper and sell it for recycling. The people help to keep the city clean and the government doesn’t have to hire other people to clean up.
