First of all I want to thank you because I must be here with you today, it’s a great honor for me to be allowed to speak to all of you, and it is an honor to be here at the University of London. In long time I have looking forward to meeting you today, and therefore it’s a special day for me.
I will start to tell you about myself. My name is Ronald Fryer and I work on a Harvard as an economics professor. I will tell you about my past, how my life is now and how I expect my life being in the future, but those things will I tell about later in my speech.
Today I will not only talk about myself but also about African-Americans and how the conditions of the African-Americans are. I will comment on the reasons current situation focusing on education, family background and the labour market. I will also talk about how to at least the problems between blacks and whites in the future, and finally I will talk about role models.
I will now start to talk about which conditions the African-Americans have: The African-Americans have always been looked down at. Most black people today are middle class, but the gab between what the black and the whites earn and what they learn is big. The blacks’ median household income is still only 63% of the whites. Black people die five years earlier than whites. One thing I wonder is what the reason is? Why do blacks’ people die five years earlier than whites? This is a big question which is very difficult to answer. The black middle class has grown much in the last years, but the black people still have many problems with crime-scorched and nearly jobless ghettos. And I think that these problems will never be solved. But what can you do about these problems? Læs fonetisk
