Coco Chanel is someone who i always have looked up to, not only because of her big role in the fashion industry for women. Also because she have shown that you don’t have to come from a “good” background to become successful. Gabriell Bonheur Chanel is her birth name, and there is many theories on why she called herself Coco. One of the most popular is that, people think its from a songs that she loved to sing when she used to perform, its called “Qui qu´a vu Coco”. Coco didn’t have an easy childhood, she was born in 1883 in Saumur, France. Her mom passed away when she was 12 years old. Her dad thereafter abandoned her and her 4 siblings. He send them to a monastery, where the nuns took care of them. It wasn’t all bad since it was there, she learned how to sew, which obviously become her life work. She never thought it was fair how men got to dress comfortably, when women almost couldn’t breath in their corset. Almost every women know about the “little black dress”, but not all know were it comes from. Coco had a lover Arthur Capel. He once asked her to come with him to a party. Coco didn’t have anything to wear to the party, so Arthur took her to a tailer shop. She picked some black fabric and said that she wanted a dress without a corset. The tailor commented “ but its going to be shapeless”. Coco couldn’t care less, and that was only the start of the difference she made for women. She also made some of the first pants for women, the women’s suit and so on. I think that she is a role model, an idol and a life changer for women. Maybe clothes isn’t a big deal for some, but it is. Its something we all deal with every single day. She will always be a big role model for countless designers, and just regular people who pursued their dreams because she showed that it is possible if you try hard enough. She didn’t come to success fast either, not everyone agreed with her. Some people where offended by women wearing pants and suit, but that didn’t stop her. Role models isn’t all like Coco who directly inspired people, some idols/role models also show what not to do e.g. Kurt Cubain. Many people doesn’t believe that he in any way could be a good role model, because of all the drugs, addiction and ofcourse suicide. But he did show a lot of fans what not to do, not to ruin your life with drugs. And what drugs can do to you
